It’s a popular way for empty nesters – or anyone with a room to spare – to make extra cash, especially in an area five miles from the Big Apple. But now some towns, such as East Rutherford, want short-term rentals, such as those generated on Airbnb, regulated and taxed. With the popularity of Airbnb skyrocketing in East Rutherford, officials there said they are exploring a way to regulate its use in the borough.
