Event Details

NYC passed the most ambitious climate legislation for buildings 25,000 sq ft and larger enacted by any city in the world in response to increasing demands for more urgent climate action.

This legislation regulation developments impact hotels and carbon challenge for hotel participants and meeting the requirements for the new climate legislation should be fairly straightforward for most of HANYC members.

Join Fatou Jabbie, from the HAYNC Sustainability Committee and an Efficiency Advisor on the NYC Retrofit Accelerator Program on Wednesday, May 22nd at 3pm at the Building Energy Exchange, for an event about the Climate Mobilization Act, a set of new laws which will require NYC buildings above 25,000 square feet to meet strict greenhouse gas limits starting in 2024. The law is expected to reduce cumulative building emissions 40% citywide by 2030 through retrofits in about 75% of large NYC buildings. The Climate Mobilization Act also establishes a new, City-based Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program to enable retrofits through long-term financing and requires the installation of solar PV and green roofs on certain NYC buildings.

Mark Chambers, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, will deliver the keynote address, followed by experts from the NYC Retrofit Accelerator, the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, the Building Energy Exchange, and NYC Energy Efficiency Corporation who will share details on the law’s requirements and resources available to help your building comply.
