WAMU – Housing Advocates Say Columbia Heights Building Used For Airbnb Rentals Eats Away At Affordable Housing

For many travelers, home-sharing services like Airbnb and VRBO are a convenient alternative to regular hotels. Housing advocates, however, say that this convenience comes at a price for local residents. They argue that using apartments for short-term rentals reduces the availability of affordable housing in cities where these services operate. On Thursday morning, a group of local housing advocates and one D.C. legislator made this argument standing in front of a small building in Columbia Heights.
