Vancouver 24 Hrs – The problem with Airbnb’s advertising

Last week Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson announced new rules that will restrict who can rent their residences on Airbnb. Basically, primary residences can still be rented on a short-term basis while income properties cannot. The proposed new law will target people who are simply buying up properties to run as mini-hotels. The Airbnb ad campaign seems intended to build public support against such regulations. But to what end? Are we supposed to rise up in anger against City Hall? Throw the bums out because they are interfering with the essential human right to buy 13 condos and rent them out at $400 a night without a business license?…
