The Times Picayune – Neighborhood ‘mourners’ want New Orleans short-term rentals regulated

Residents from the St. Roch, Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods staged a mock jazz funeral outside New Orleans City Hall on Tuesday (Sept. 27) to convince the City Council to approve new short-term rental regulations. Carrying two black coffins with “RIP real neighbors” and “RIP affordable housing” scrawled on the lids, members of three neighborhood associations stood in front of City Hall as the Treme Brass Band played a funeral dirge. Speakers during the demonstration complained that their neighborhoods have been particularly hard-hit by investors scooping up houses and flipping them, only to rent them to people using online short-term rental services….
