SACRAMENTO — An Airbnb-backed bill that would have created a statewide tax-collection system for short-term rental platforms died in a Senate fiscal committee Friday amid opposition from cities and a hotel labor union. The Senate Appropriations Committee’s decision to shelve SB 1102 marks the second unsuccessful attempt in less than a year by Sen. Mike McGuire to enact new regulations on the fast-growing but controversial home-rental marketplace….
