Skift – New Yorkers Are Protesting Short-Term Apartment Rentals

Demonstrators have rallied at New York’s Capitol to support legislation that would outlaw advertising apartments for short-term rentals on sites like Airbnb and require landlords to notify tenants about the limits. It’s currently illegal to rent out apartments for less than 30 days in New York City. Assembly member Linda Rosenthal, a Manhattan Democrat, says online platforms for home sharing including Airbnb still allow short-term listings that violate the state’s “illegal hotels law” and threaten the availability of long-term housing….
