MarketWatch – Airbnb hosts and tenants spar over New York ruling

Airbnb hosts and employees and anti-Airbnb protesters took to the street Wednesday, at odds over the recently passed New York legislation. Facing the Airbnb crew from a few feet away, sign holders, whom Rosenthal identified as tenants, chanted “What do we want? Affordable housing. When do we want it? Now!” Rosenthal, a Manhattan democrat who sponsored the bill, said she feels the bill is just cracking down on illegal listings that could be better used to meeting housing demand. She found abuse of the system herself, she said, when she went rented four different apartment listings on Airbnb and spoke to owners who said they had multiple properties on the platform. “Those are supposed to be someone’s apartment,” Rosenthal said….
