Inside Nova – Arlington to tighten up rules on taxing Airbnb-style rentals

Arlington County Board members aim to clean up a section of the County Code as it relates to taxes on “home-stay rentals” like those of Airbnb. Board members in December created a legal framework for those who wish to rent out part or all of their homes on a short-term basis, but a current county ordinance only permits collecting the 7.25-percent transient-occupancy tax on stays if four or more people are using the property at any one time. The revision, expected to be voted on in late March, will allow for collection of taxes on any stay, no matter the number of people involved…
