Chicago Tribune – Oak Park seeks to tax Airbnb rentals

Hoping to “level the playing field,” the Oak Park Village Board announced its intention to tax Airbnb renters at a similar rate as hotel and traditional bed and breakfast guests. During the Aug. 7 village board meeting, trustees held a first reading of an ordinance that would recognize “transient occupancy rental units” in private residences and tax them at a rate of 4 percent, which is the same as the village’s hotel/motel tax rate….
