City residents saying they’ve been pushed out of their homes to make way for short-term rentals like Airbnb were part of a packed council hearing over the controversial money-making housing craze. “I know about 10 people who have been put out of their homes so people can purchase property so they can make it short-term properties. It’s heartbreaking,” John McCarthy said. He said there are about 20 dedicated short-term rentals on his street in East Boston, leaving “people who just want to live in this city” looking elsewhere….
