Albany Times Union – RensCo GOP chair: AirBnB ‘crossed every line’ with anti-Serino mailer

October 31, 2016
Rensselaer County Republican Chairman John Rustin slapped AirBnB for its bank-shot effort to hurt Lower Hudson Valley state Sen. Sue Serino’s re-election chances by tying her to the water contamination crisis in Hoosick Falls. “Don’t let Hoosick happen here,” announced the alliterative advocates of the Stronger Neighborhoods PAC in its mailer. In a statement, Rustin batted back against the use of Hoosick Falls in the mailer: “Maybe AirBnB doesn’t know a lot about how wonderful a place Hoosick Falls is to live in or visit, so I’d be happy to take their political hack Josh Meltzer [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][AirBnB’s public policy chief] on a tour. They have crossed every line with their Hoosick Falls mailer. Real Rensselaer County families have suffered enough. People are scared, and for AirBnb to use this public health crisis as a scare-tactic in a completely different part of the state is nothing but reprehensible. I get politics, but this is too much. AirBnB should be ashamed. I’m all for the ‘sharing economy,’ but they should not be in the business of sharing lies and misinformation. AirBnB should be in the business of growing their company in New York, not in growing cynicism, fear, and distortions.”
