It’s a popular way for empty nesters – or anyone with a room to spare – to make extra cash, especially in an area five miles from the Big Apple. But now some towns, such as East Rutherford, want short-term rentals, such as those generated on Airbnb, regulated and taxed. With the popularity of Airbnb skyrocketing in East Rutherford, officials there said they are exploring a way to regulate its use in the borough. During East Rutherford’s borough council meeting on July 19, Councilman Jeffrey Lahullier brought up the subject of Airbnb and the concerns he has regarding residents renting out their homes….
