Washington Post – Kim Kardashian, Airbnb, and the big problem with sponsored social-media posts

Kim Kardashian West is settling in for a stint in New York City — and Airbnb is putting her up.

In an Instagram post Tuesday that has already attracted more than 1.4 million likes, the reality star thanked the tech company “for the gift” of her temporary home: a lavish five-bedroom, six-bathroom penthouse that normally rents for $10,000 per night. All too often it’s unclear whether or not the celebrities are being compensated, either in cash or with free stays, for their social media raves about the home-sharing service. And if they are, that could put them and Airbnb on the wrong side of the Federal Trade Commission….
