I hope county supervisors were not fooled by the investors who showed up to make a pitch to legalize — they call it regulate — home-share short-term rentals at the board meeting Nov. 15. The vast majority of them own whole-house short-term rentals. Why would they make such a hard pitch for home shares, where the owner is on premises, when they don’t even own one? Across the country, Airbnb has taught groups to use this approach to keep a foot in the door to legalize short-term rentals, and they had a paid political consultant who isn’t saying who paid her, and an anonymous 90-page white paper written by an economist, again not saying who paid her….
