Times Picayune – Legislature passes new Airbnb sales tax; bill heads to governor

The Louisiana Legislature on Tuesday (March 8) passed a bill that will expand the 4 percent state sales tax to Airbnb rentals, as well as other residential locations that are being rented on a short-term basis. Although the bill was passed amid a historic $900 million budget shortfall, it is unclear how much the new tax would raise because the state was unable to calculate how many short-term rentals exist or how much revenue they generate….
